    Notorious tree-killing fungus unravelled

    The first multicellular genome to be sequenced in Africa was produced by scientists at the University of Pretoria. They produced the full genome sequence of the tree-killing fungus, Fusarium circinatum, renewing hope that the global destruction that it wreaks in commercial pine plantations may be stemmed in years to come.

    UP Professor receives the Queen's Award for her contribution to forestry

    The Commonwealth Forestry Association has bestowed Prof Jolanda Roux with the Queen's Award for her contribution to forestry. The award, which recognises the achievements and supports the future work of an outstanding mid-career forester, comprises a certificate, a cash prize and a travel grant.
